When Michael, Sherie, John, and Sharon joined us for a half-day escape through Coonawarra. Their journey began with a relaxed pickup from The Must in Penola, setting the tone for a day filled with discovery, exceptional wines, and memorable stories.
Exploring Balnaves of Coonawarra
Our first stop was Balnaves of Coonawarra, a cellar door that perfectly captures the essence of the region with the group enjoyed a tasting of their finest wines. . Known for its elegant wines, Balnaves showcases the deep connection between the vines and the famous terra rossa soils.
Wine and Lunch at Brand’s Laira
Next, we traveled to Brand’s Laira, The highlight here was a delicious ploughman’s platter paired with a guided tasting inside Eric’s Bottle Shed. This limestone structure, once a working cellar, now offers a unique dining experience surrounded by layers of winemaking history. The Bottle Shed’s design cleverly blends old and new, allowing guests to enjoy their meal while soaking in the stories embedded in the walls.
Charm of Bellwether Wines
Our journey continued at Bellwether Wines, where the rustic charm of the old Glenroy Shearing Shed creates a distinctive tasting atmosphere. This venue offers more than just wine; it provides a hands-on connection to the land and its heritage. The group experienced a down-to-earth tasting.
Perfect ending at Di Giorgio Family Wines
We wrapped up the tour at Di Giorgio Family Wines, where relaxed hospitality and excellent wine made for a perfect ending. They were greeted with warmth and able to choose their own wine paddle for a memorable wine tasting experience. The welcoming atmosphere invited the group to unwind and reflect on the day’s experiences.
Coonawarra Railway Siding
No visit to Coonawarra would be complete without a stop at the iconic Coonawarra Railway Siding. Here, the group enjoyed some light-hearted photo moments, capturing memories against the backdrop of this historic site.
